abstract 1305673 Mixing flowing fluids ITT INDUSTRIES Inc 20 May 1971 [26 May 1970] 15933/71 Heading B1C In a method and aparatus for reducing the concentration of a constituent in a fluid, a portion of the fluid is separated, the whole or part of the constituent is removed from the separated portion, and the latter is then reunited with the untreated fluid. As described, for the detection of hydrogen sulphide or sulphur in a gel, a pulse generator 25 controls 3-way valve 11 to connect input conduit 10 alternately with conduits 14, 15, conduit 15 having an activated charcoal filter 12. The treated and untreated gases are reunited in conduit 16 which has an outlet aperture (21, Fig. 2 not shown) located to produce a swirling action in mixing tank 19. There is a detector 23 for the constituent of interior, which may be an electrolytic titrator (29, Fig. 3, not shown); in this case the apparatus acts as a multiplier for the detector. The detector output may be an AC or DC and used to operate a meter or recorder or a process control device. The pulse generator 25 may have controls 26, 27 to adjust pulse frequency and duration or may be a synchronous motor operated commentator. The valve 11 may be spring biassed to connect conduits 10, 14 except when energised.
