abstract | 1303508 Food preservative UNILEVER Ltd 3 June 1970 [3 June 1969] 26745/70 Heading A2D [Also in Division C5] An edible product comprises fat and water emulsified together and containing, by weight of the water, at least 0.2% of 5-hydroxymethyl- 2-furfural as preservative. The water preferably has a pH greater than 5, and the emulsion may contain an emulsifier system for stabilising the fatty emulsion and for maintaining the spread of the product in a destabilised condition. Exemplified products preserved using the above furfural derivative comprise skim milk, sunflower seed oil and palm oil. Comparative examples illustrate the preserving action of 2, 5 dihydroxymethylfuran and 5-acetoxymethyl-2- furfural. |
