abstract 1303211 Fluid collecting device JINTAN TERUMO KK 1 Jan 1971 164/71 Heading A5R A fluid collecting device comprises a holder 16 for a removable fluid collection chamber 12 and a needle (11) part of which 11a projects from the holder for piercing human skin, whilst the other part 11b projects into the holder for protrusion into the collection chamber, the needle being enveloped by a self sealing elastic sheath 15. When in use in sampling blood, the needle end 11a is inserted into the vein, the fluid collection chamber 12 which is evacuated is then brought into contact with the needle, whereby the sheath is pressed between the needle end 11b and a depression 18a in a self sealing plug in the collection chamber and the plug is pierced by the needle, so that blood is transmitted to the collection chamber 12. When the collection chamber 12 is removed from the needle the elastic sheath expands to its previous position enveloping the rear end of the needle 11b. A layer of silicone oil on the needle allows this to happen instantaneously, thus preventing spillage. Several containers 12 may be used to take separate blood samples without removing the needle from the vein.
