abstract | 1302477 Dicarboxylic acids TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 11 June 1971 27457/71 Heading C2C Alkanedioic acids (3-9 C) are prepared by contacting a cycloalkane (3-9 C) with a mixture of ozone and nitric acid (with a concentration of 100-115 wt. per cent) at -60‹ to 100‹ C. Cyclopentane and cyclohexane yielding glutaric and succinic acids, and adipic acid and cyclooctane yielding suberic acid may be used and a mole ratio of cycloalkane to nitric acid of 10 : 1 and 1 : 10 and a mole ratio of nitric acid to ozone of between 100 : 1 and 1 : 1 are used. The nitric acid may include anhydride to give the higher concentration, and the process may be continuous, with separation of the acids by crystallization. |
