abstract | 1302224 Electroless Ni coating; electroplating with copper, nickel NAPHTACHIMIE 30 June 1970 [1 July 1969] 31598/70 Headings C7B and C7F [Also in Division C3] Articles made from compositions comprising (a) up to 2 weight per cent of an organic nitrogen compound having one or more amine or amide groups, at least one aliphatic group of at least 6 carbon atoms and at least one hydroxy, alkoxy or acyl group, and (b) either (1) a mixture of 75 to 97 weight per cent of isotactic polypropylene with 3 to 25 weight per cent of an amorphous copolymer of ethylene and propylene containing at least 10 weight per cent of ethylene, or of isoprene and/or butadiene with at least 90 weight per cent of isobutene, or (2) a block copolymer containing 75 to 97 weight per cent of isotactic polypropylene blocks and 3 to 25 weight per cent of blocks of random ethylene/propylene copolymer containing at least 10 weight per cent of ethylene, are chemically and electroplated by conventional techniques. The amorphous copolymer may be derived from ethylene and propylene or from isobutylene and butadiene or isoprene. Specified nitrogen compounds are N,N-bis (hydroxyethyl) dodecylamine, N(3-dodecyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl) ethanolamine, N(3-octyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl) ethanolamine, oleamide, methylene bis stearamido and ethylene bis stearamide. The articles may be chemically plated with nickel and electro-plated successively with nickel, copper, and nickel and/ or chromium or nickel and/or gold. In examples propylene/ethylene block copolymer articles are degreased with soda lye, neutralized with sodium bisulphite, etched with sulphuric/phosphoric/ chromic acid, sensitized with stannous chloride, activated with palladium chloride, chemically plated with nickel and electro-plated with nickel, copper and nickel. |
