abstract 1301670 Bicyclo[n.1.0]alkylureas and corresponding isocyanates AGRIPAT SA 22 Dec 1969 [23 Dec 1968] 62419/69 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention relates to bicyclo[n.1.0]alkylureas of the general formula wherein R 1 is hydrogen or, a C 1 -C 6 alkyl or alkoxy radical, R 2 is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, alkenyl or alkinyl radical and n is a number from 3 to 6. The invention also relates to a process for the production of bicyclo[n.1.0]alkyl-isocyanates of the formula in which n corresponds to the number 3, 5 or 6, comprising thermally decomposing the azide of bicycle[3.1.0]hexane-6-carboxylic acid, bicyclo[5.1.0]octane-8-carboxylic acid or bicyclo- [6.1.0]nonane-9-carboxylic acid. The ureas may be prepared by reacting (a) either a bicyclo- [n.1.0]alkyl-isocyanate of the Formula II with an amine or (b) a bicyclo[n.1.0]alkyl-amine of the formula with a carbamoyl halide of the formula in which Hal represents chlorine or bromine, or (c) a bicyclo[n.1.0]alkyl-amine of the Formula IV with the components forming a carbamoyl halide of the formula given above, namely phosgene and an amine or (d) a bicyclo[n.1.0]alkyl-amine of the Formula IV with a halogen carbonic acid derivative Cl-CO-R wherein R represents chlorine or a phenoxy radical to form a carbamic acid derivative and then reacting this with an amine of the formula or (e) a bicyclo[n.1.0]alkyl-amine of the Formula IV wherein R 1 represents hydrogen with an isocyanate of the Formula R 2 NCO. Ureas claimed per se N-bicyclo[4.1.0]heptyl(7)-N<SP>1</SP>N<SP>1</SP>- dimethyl and N<SP>1</SP>-methyl-N<SP>1</SP>-methoxy urea, N-bicyclo[5.1.0]octyl(8)-N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethyl urea and N - bicylo[6.1.0]nonyl(9) - N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethyl urea. Isocyanates claimed per se are bicyclo- [3.1.0]hexyl(6)-exo-isocyanate, bicyclo[5.1.0]- octyl(8)-exo-isocyanate; bicyclo[6.1.0]nonyl(9)- exo-isocyanate. The compounds have herbicidal properties.
