abstract 1301643 Polymeric polyelectrolytes BUCKMAN LABORATORIES Inc 6 Feb 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 5914/70 Heading C3R [Also in Divisions C1 and D2] Water-soluble cationic polymeric polyelectrolytes are made by reacting, in a solvent medium consisting essentially of water, a ditertiary amine with X-W-Z-Y-X, where X is Cl or Br; W and Y are each (CH 2 ) 1-10 , optionally substituted with alkyl or -CH 2 OH groups; and Z is -O-, -CO-, -NH-, -OCH 2 CH 2 O-, -OCH(CH 3 )-CH 2 O-, -S-, -SO-, or -SO 2 -. The reaction may be performed at 50-150‹ C. Long lists of reactants are given. Use.-Paper-making additives; flocculating agents for water treatment.
