abstract 1301440 Preparation of methoxynaphthylpropionic acid SYNTEX CORP 20 Jan 1970 [30 Sept 1969 (2)] 31651/72 Divided out of 1300591 Heading C2C 2 - (6 - Methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) propionic acid is prepared by treating 2-(6-methoxy-2- naphthyl) - 1 - propanol (1) with potassium, sodium or zinc permanganate or potassium or sodium manganate in an inert organic solvent, water or mixtures thereof or (2) with nickel peroxide in the presence of an inorganic base in an aqueous ether solvent and acidifying the reaction mixture from (1) or (2). A dl-mixture thus formed may be resolved, if desired. 2 - (6 - Methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) - 1 - propanol is prepared by reduction of the corresponding aldehyde. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising 2-(6- methoxy-2-naphthyl) propionic acid, when prepared as above, and an excipient are used in treating inflammation, pain and pyrexia.
