abstract | 1300753 Coated products INTERNATIONAL SYNTHETIC RUBBER CO Ltd 16 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 2866/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division D1] Two materials are adhered to each other by appling to one or both a homo- or co-polymer of butadiene, which has been obtained by depolymerisation and which has at least 3 reactive groups per polymer molecule, as a liquid or a non-aqueous solution of at least 80 wt % polymer content, and curing the polymer. The process may be used for back-sizing a tufted or loop pile carpet for adhesion of the tufts to the base, the polymer being applied by knife or doctor blade. The base may be of jute, hessian, or polypropylene. Curing may be at 20-200‹C by infrared radiation, or by γ-irradiation. The polymer may include styrene, vinyl toluene acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride or acrylic acid as co-monomer, it preferably contains 4-100 reactive groups (e.g. hydroxyl, thiol, carboxyl, amino, acid chloride, isocyanate or epoxy) per 1000 C atoms. The groups are introduced by depolymerisation in hydrocarbon solvent (as described in Specification 1,057,014) but may be present by virtue of the presence of a comonomer. The polymer can include crosslinking agents and accelerators, fillers, resinous extenders and thinning oils. |
