abstract | 1299155 Salts of sulphoalkyl acrylates SANYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [28 Jan 1970] 20428/71 Heading C2C Salts of sulphoalkyl acrylates and methacrylates, specifically those of formula where R is H or CH 3 , n is 3 or 4, x is 1 or 2 and M is a cation, are prepared by reacting at least one acrylic acid salt and/or methacrylic acid salt with 1,3-propane sultone and/or 1,4- butane sultone in the presence of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid, said acid being present in an amount of at least 0À5 mol. per mole of the acid salt. The necessary acid plus salt may be provided by partially neutralizing the acid with a base in the required ratio. An inert solvent, e.g. an aromatic hydrocarbon may be present in an amount less than 50% by weight based on the acid Na, K, Li, Ca and NH 4 salts are prepared in examples. |
