abstract | 1297167 Mercaptoalkylalkoxysilanes DOW CORNING CORP 3 July 1970 [4 Aug 1969] 32414/70 Heading C3S Novel mercaptoalkylalkoxysilanes of the formula HSCH 2 SiR<SP>1</SP> 3x- (OR) x , wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation or a radical R f CH 2 CH 2 -, R f represents a C 1-20 perfluoroalkyl radical, R represents a C 1-6 alkyl or C 2-6 alkoxyalkyl radical, and x is 1, 2 or 3, are prepared (1) by reacting YCH 2 SiR<SP>1</SP> 3-x (OR) x (wherein Y represents Cl or Br) with thioacetic acid in the presence of a tertiary amine hydrogen halide acceptor and thereafter reacting the resulting product with an alcohol under basic conditions; (2) by reacting YCH 2 SiR<SP>1</SP> 3-x (OR) x with thiourea and thereafter decomposing the resulting thiouranium salt with an alkali; or (3) by reacting YCH 2 SiR<SP>1</SP> 3-x (OR) x with sodium hydrosulphide in an anhydrous medium. Examples describe the preparation of dimethylmethoxy-, methyldimethoxy-, trimethoxy-, triethoxy-, tris- (beta - methoxyethoxy) -, phenyldimethoxy -, 3,3,3 - trifluoropropyldimethoxy - and octadecyldiisopropoxy-mercaptomethylsilanes. Uses.-As coupling agents between organic resins and siliceous substrates. |
