abstract | 1297015 Stabilizing polyolefins AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 18 Feb 1970 [9 April 1969] 7877/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C2] Polyolefins derived from C 2-4 α-olefins, e.g. polypropylene, are stabilized by the incorporation of nickel amide complexes of a 2,2<SP>1</SP>-thiobis- (p-alkylphenol) of the formula wherein each R is alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms and L is an amide complexed through the amide oxygen atom selected from nitrilo-tris alkanamides having 1-6 carbon atoms in the alkane moiety, N-mono- and N,N-dialkyl substituted amides of aliphatic C 1 -C 18 carboxylic acids, N,N<SP>1</SP>-alkylene bis-alkanamides and alkenamides, dialkylureas, ethyleneurea and C 1 -C 6 alkyl substituted derivatives of phosphoric acid triamide (see Division C2). Alternatively the polyolefins are stabilized by the incorporation of a substantially 1 : 1 mixture of a nickel aquo complex of a 2,2<SP>1</SP>-thiobis (p-alkylphenol) and an amide selected from those listed above. Examples describe the stabilization of polypropylene with complexes obtained from nickel 2,2<SP>1</SP>-thio-bis-(p-t-octylphenolate) and N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylstearamide, N, N<SP>1</SP> - methylene - bis - acrylamide, N - (2 - dodecyl)acrylamide, ethylene urea and hexamethylphosphortriamide. |
