abstract | 1296295 Polylactams FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 23 June 1971 [4 July 1970] 29410/71 Heading C3R One or more lactams (L) having # 7 ring- members are polymerized by adding a strong acid (A) as catalyst to molten (L) at # 200 C. with rapid stirring, and then heating to a polymerization temperature of 250-340 C. (A) may be added when (L) is at 240 C. Acid (A) may be a P oxyacid, e.g. ortho-, meta-, or pyro-phosphoric, or phosphorous or hypophosphorous acid, or where R and R 1 are aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, alkyl-substituted aromatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, optionally chlorinated, and where R 1 may also be H or OH. There may be 0À001-1À0% mole (A) based on (L). (L) may be #-capro-, capryl-, oenantho-, and/or #-dodecano-lactam. Chain-terminators, e.g. acetic, propionic, stearic, benzoic, or adipic acid. stearylamine, or N-butyl benzamide or N- butyl acetamide, may be added before, with, or after (A).
