titleOfInvention Method of preparing substituted alkali metal amides
abstract 1294418 Alkali metal amides COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 26588/71 Heading C2C A mono- or disubstituted alkali metal amide is prepared by preparing a solution of the unsubstituted alkali metal amide MNH 2 in liquid ammonia, adding a primary or secondary amine to precipitate the MNH 2 , and heating while eliminating gaseous ammonia. The amine is preferably of formula RR<SP>1</SP>NH, where R and R<SP>1</SP> are C 1-6 aliphatic radicals or aromatic (e.g. phenyl or benzyl) or R<SP>1</SP> can be hydrogen. The amine can be used in excess, which can be eliminated with the ammonia or not as desired. Additional amine can be added during the process to compensate for amine distilled off. 'Examples prepare potassium dimethylamide, caesium dimethylamide, sodium diethylamide and potassium methylamide.
