titleOfInvention Process for the production of polyurethane moldings
abstract 1293833 Polyurethane foams CINCINNATI MILACRON Inc 27 Nov 1970 [3 Dec 1969] 56476/70 Headings C3C and C3R Polyurethane foams are prepared by (1) mixing a polyisocyanate, a polyol and a blowing agent; (2) passing the resultant liquid as a substantially non-reacted, non-expanded liquid mixture into the cavity of a closable mould; (3) allowing the liquid to expand and fill the cavity of the closed mould as the polyurethane is formed and (4) curing and removing the resultant moulded article, the blowing agent being a mixture of stable volatile organic liquids of differing volatilities, which liquids have atmospheric boiling points from - 50‹ to 120‹ F., the blowing agent after being mixed with the polyisocyanate and polyol exhibiting a vapour pressure of not greater than 1 atmosphere at 110‹ F. The blowing agent is most suitably a mixture of two organic liquids, one having a boiling point of 30‹ to 120‹ F. and the other a boiling point of - 50‹ to 50‹ F., the difference between their boiling points being 30‹ to 150‹ F. Suitably the liquids are fluorocarbons, chlorofluorocarbons, bromofluorocarbons or perfluorocarbons and most suitably the mixture is one of dichlorodifluoromethane and trichloromonofluoromethane. Numerous other mixtures are listed. Conventional polyisocyanates and polyols are used and the reaction mixture suitably contains a surface-active dispersing agent and/or a catalyst for urethane polymerization.
