abstract | 1293303 Thiohydantoin derivatives SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 18 Jan 1971 [21 Jan 1970] 2275/71 Heading C2C Compounds of formula wherein X is halogen, n is 1 to 3, Y is C(R 1 )(R 2 ) or C = R, in which R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen or alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonyl or alkoxycarbonylalkyl groups and R is an alkylidene or alkoxycarbonylalkylidene group, the alkyl and alkylidene groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, are prepared by (a) reaction of a halophenyl isothiocyanate with an amino acid of formula NH 2 C(R 1 )(R 2 )COOH, or an alkali metal salt thereof, (b) dehydration of a compound wherein Y is the group CHCH(OH)R 3 , wherein R 3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, with an alkali metal hydroxide, (c) reaction of a compound wherein Y is a methylene group with an aldehyde, or (d) reaction of a halophenyl thiourea with a compound of formula R 5 OCO(CH 2 ) m ,COCOOR 6 , in which each of R 5 and R 6 is an alkyl group and m is 1 to 3. The products are herbicides. |
