titleOfInvention | A thermosetting linear copolymer |
abstract | 1292487 Laminates TH GOLDSCHMIDT AG 29 April 1970 [6 May 1969] 20649/70 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Sheet material made from a thermosetting polymer consisting of 70-94 mole per cent of units of styrene or one or more monomers of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is H or -CH 3 and R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-4 alkyl when R<SP>1</SP> is CH 3 and C 1-3 alkyl when R<SP>1</SP> is H, 2-15 mole per cent of maleic and/or itaconic anhydride units, 4-15 mole per cent of glycidyl acrylate and/or methacrylate units and 0-3 mole per cent of vinyl pyridine units, the polymer having a limiting viscosity (100 ml. g.<SP>-1</SP>) of 0À7 to 3À0 measured on the Standinger index in toluene at 20 C., is bonded to substrates such as wood panelling by pressing the two together at 15-40 kg./m.<SP>2</SP> and 120-160 C. In the examples sheets of the following copolymers are bonded to wood substrates: (1) - (3) Styrene / maleic anhydride / glycidyl methacrylate; (4) and (10) methyl methacrylate /glycidyl acrylate/maleic anhydride; (5) methyl methacrylate / n - butyl methacrylate / glycidyl acrylate/maleic anhydride; (6) as in (4) but with vinyl pyridine as an additional comonomer; (7) butyl methacrylate/glycidyl acrylate/itaconic anhydride; (8) ethyl acrylate/glycidyl acrylate/ maleic anhydride; and (9) methyl methacrylate/ itaconic anhydride/glycidyl acrylate. |
