abstract | 1288937 Methylene bridged polyaryl amines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 May 1970 [9 June 1969] 29092/69 Heading C2C Methylene bridged polyaryl amines are prepared by condensing a primary arylamine and formaldehyde at elevated temperature in the presence of a strong organic carboxylic acid of pKa value less than 1À5 such as oxalic, trifluoroacetic, triehloroacetic, dichloroacetic, difluoroacetic and heptafluorbutyric acids. A neutral metallic salt, e.g. a halide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal may also be present and the reactants may be heated at a pressure above atmospheric and the process carried out in a continuous manner.
