abstract | 1287714 Moulding powder FORD MOTOR CO 17 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 15225/71 Headings C3B and C3P A thermosetting moulding powder comprises: (A) a copolymer of (I) glycidyl methacrylate, (II) methyl methacrylate and (III) acrylonitrile and/or methacrylonitrile, and (B) as curing agent an aromatic amine which contains at least one primary amino group. (A) may contain 15-35% by wt. of I, 10-30% by wt. of III and 35-75% by wt. of II. A minor proportion of II may be replaced by another ethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. styrene, vinyl acetate or an ester of (meth)acrylic acid with a C 2 -C 4 alkanol. (A) may have a M.W. of 1500- 16000, a softening point of 50-130 C. and may be prepared by solution or suspension polymerization. (B) may be 4,4<SP>1</SP>-methylenedianiline and may be present so as to provide 0À75-1À5 active hydrogen atoms for every epoxy group in (A). A cross-linking catalyst, e.g. urea, methyl urea, an imidazole or a BF 3 complex, may also be present. A reactive diluent, e.g. a liquid diepoxide may also be employed in the composition. |
