titleOfInvention | Lithoplate master and method of making |
abstract | 1286639 Lithographic printing plates MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 18 Sept 1969 [19 Sept 1968] 46116/69 Heading G2C [Also in Division B6] Lithographic printing plates are prepared from a lithoplate master having a hydrophilic printing layer containing at its surface an ionic iodide, by applying an imagewise distribution of an α-naphthol to the master and heating the master in at least the areas to which the naphthol is applied. The α-naphthol is ring-substituted by a preponderance of electron donor groups. The plate may be formed by (1) reflex exposing to an original a sheet containing erythrosin (sensitizer), 4-methoxy- 1-naphthol in a polymeric binder using an incandesent source, so that the exposed areas are desensitized, contacting the sheet with a lithoplate master and heating giving a blue hydrophobic image, (2) passing a sheet containing 4-methoxy- 1-naphthol in a cellulose acetate/butyrate binder containing diphenylphthalate through an ir. copier together with a lithomaster and a printed document, or (3) printing and writing on a sheet as in (2) and passing the sheet through an ir. copier together with a lithomaster. The lithomaster in (1) is prepared by applying aqueous K1 to the hydrophilic surface of a paper base, that of (2) is prepared by coating a paper base with an aqueous mixture of polyvinyl alcohol, kaolin, glycerine, dimethylolurea, K1 and butanol; and that of (3) is prepared by coating a paper base with (i) an aqueous mixture of polyvinyl alcohol, clay, glycerine, glyoxal and butanol, and then (ii) an aqueous solution of N(C 2 H 5 ) 4 1. |
