titleOfInvention Improvements relating to composite boards
abstract 1286478 Foam coated perlite board GREFCO Inc 16 Dec 1969 61270/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A composite board having good thermal insulation properties has a U value of not more than 0.2 and comprises an organic plastic foam layer having a K factor not greater than 0.4 covered on at least one of its surfaces by a perlite board comprising expanded perlite intermixed with fibrous material, e.g. newsprint fibre, and held together by a binder, and having a minimum thickness of 0.6 inch, a K factor not greater than 0.45 a minimum perlite content of at least 30% by weight and a combustible organic phase not greater than 35% by weight. The other surface of the foam layer may be covered by a layer of perlite board, roofing felt or paper. The perlite board layer is preferably 3/4-1 inch thick and the foam layer ยข-2 inches thick. The foam layer may be produced in situ on the perlite board. The foam may be produced from a polyurethane, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride or epoxy resin, suitable blowing agents used to produce the foam being pentanes, hexanes, halocarbons, preferably fluorocarbons; azodiocarbonamide and dinitrosopentamethylene tetramines. The foam composition may also contain tertiary amine catalysts, e.g. triethylamine, surfactant copolymers based on dimethyl polysiloxane and polyoxysiloxanes, phosphorus and chlorine substituted polyols to impart flame resistance, dyes, fibres and fillers, e.g. wood flour, clay, talc, antimony oxide and ammonium phosphate.
