titleOfInvention Merocyanine dyes and photographic emulsions containing them
abstract 1286347 Sensitized silver halide emulsions EASTMAN KODAK CO 9 June 1970 [16 June 1969] 27737/70 Heading G2C [Also in Divisions C2 and C4] Silver halide emulsions are sensitized with dyes of the formula:- wherein n is 1 to 4, k is 1 or 2, Z completes a heterocyclic nucleus e.g. a lepidine, indole, benzolhiazol benzoxazole, benzo selenazole or benzimidazole nucleus which may be substitute by alkyl or chloro groups, R<SP>1</SP> is alkylene, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are alkyl 2 to 12 C, phenyethyl or dodecyl benzyl, aryl or complete a 5 or 6-membered heterocyclic ring e.g. a morpholine, piperidine 1 deca and tetrahyalro quinoline, pyrazine, pyrrolidine or pyrroline ring, and Q completes a rhodanine or 2-thiobarbituric acid nucleus which may be substituted by alkyl groups. The dyes are prepared by the usual condensation methods.
