abstract 1285839 Radiation treatment UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION 2 Oct 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 46876/70 Heading C1C A method of treating industrial waste solutions containing non-biodegradable organic pesticides comprises saturating and pressurizing the solution with oxygen or air at a partial pressure of at least 300 p.s.i.g. and then irradiating with gamma radiation said solution until the pesticide has been decomposed into non-toxic constituents to a degree sufficient for safe disposal. The treatment is particularly applicable to solutions containing halogenated hydrocarbons having a pesticidal action, i.e. dieldrin.
