abstract 1285397 Cellulose ester compositions CELFA AG 20 May 1970 [21 June 1969] 24401/70 Heading C3F A fluid mixture (suitable for forming films, foils, filaments or for use as a lacquer) comprises a cellulose ester and a sulphoxide of formula where R 1 and R 2 are saturated aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic radicals and where the sulphoxide contains not more than 14 carbon atoms, together with a solvent for the ester. The sulphoxide may be dimethyl sulphoxide or methyl ethyl sulphoxide. The ester may be a cellulose triacetate, cellulose diacetate or cellulose acetobutyrate. The sulphoxide may be present in an amount of 1-20% by weight of the cellulose ester. The solvent for the cellulose ester may be methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene chloride or propylene chloride, and optionally also an alcohol (e.g. methanol) or cyclohexane. A plasticizer, e.g. triphenyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, triethyl phosphate, may be added; preferably the weight ratio of sulphoxide to plasticizer is 1 : 5 to 5 : 1.
