titleOfInvention Multi-substituted derivatives of benzoic acid
abstract 1284760 Substituted derivatives of benzoic acid RICON KK 13 Oct 1969 [15 Oct 1968] 50119/69 Heading C2C The invention relates to substituted deriva tives of benzoic acid of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 are each an alkyl radical having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, X 1 is a bromine or chlorine atom and X 2 is a hydrogen, bromine or chlorine atom. Compounds claimed per se are methyl 2,6 - dihydroxy - 3,5 - dibromo - 4- methoxy benzoate, ethyl 2,6-dihydroxy-3,5-dibromo-4-ethoxy benzoate, methyl 2,6-dihydroxy - 3,5 - dichloro - 4 - methoxy benzoate, methyl 3-bromo-4-methoxy-2,6-dihydroxy benzoate, methyl 3 - bromo - 5 - chloro - 4 - methoxy-2,6-dihydroxy benzoate. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound of the general formula in which R 3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical from 1 to 4 carbon atoms with an alkylating agent. The intermediate compound of Formula II may be prepared by reacting phloroglucinol carboxylic acid or carboxylate with a halogenation agent.
