titleOfInvention Curable mixtures of epoxide resins and di-primary diamines containing a heterocyclic nucleus
abstract 1282297 Curing epoxy resins CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 Nov 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 56728/69 Heading C3B [Also in Division C2] Epoxy resins are cured by a di-(N-γ-aminopropyl)-hydantoin: in which R 1 and R 2 are independently H, aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals or in which R 1 and R 2 together form a divalent aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical. Examples of I, which may be used so as to provide 0À5-1À3 equivalents of nitrogen-bonded active hydrogen atoms per epoxide equivalent of the epoxy resin, are: 1,3 - di - (γ - aminopropyl) - 5,5 - dimethylhydantoin; 1,3 - di - (γ - aminopropyl) - 5 - isopropylhydantoin; 1,3 - di - (γ - aminopropyl)-5- methyl - 5 - ethylhydantoin; 1,3 - di - (γ- aminopropyl) - 5,5 - pentamethylenehydantoin; 1,3 - di - (γ - aminopropyl) - 5 - methyl-5-phenylhydantoin; and 1,3 - di - (γ - aminopropyl)- 5,5-diphenylhydantoin. The epoxy resin may be a polyglycidyl of a polyhydric phenol or of a cycloaliphatic polyol or it may be a polyglycidyl ester, e.g. of tetrahydrophthalic acid. Curing may take place at 20-120‹ C.
