abstract 1280847 Polyimides RHONE-POULENC SA 18 Dec 1969 [19 Dec 1968] 61839/69 Heading C3R Prepolymers are obtained by heating at 100‹ to 250‹ C. (a) more than 1, e.g. 1À2 to 50, molar proportions of a bis-imide (b) 1 molar proportion of a C 2-30 diprimary diamine, and (c) 0À5 to 10% by weight of (a) + (b) of trimellitic anhydride. A is a divalent radical containing at least 2 carbons and D is a divalent radical containing a carbon-carbon double bond. The reaction between (a) and (b) is described and claimed in parent Specification and Specification 1,280,846. Fillers or pigments may be mixed with the prepolymer which may be moulded at 50 to 500 bars and 200‹ to 350‹ C. In the example 321 g. of N,N<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethanebis-maleimide, 71 g. of bis-(4-aminophenyl)- methane and 1, 2 or 5 wt. per cent trimellitic anhydride are heated at 165‹ C. for 45 minutes and the resulting prepolymer moulded into cylinders 32 mm. x 15 mm. diameter at 150 bars and 250‹ C.
