titleOfInvention Long-acting oral carrier
abstract 1279214 Sustained release compositions FOREST LABORATORIES INC 13 Jan 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 1744/71 Addition to 1171691 Heading A5B A pharmaceutical form for sustained buccal or sublingual administration consists of a shaped compressed product comprising a carrier of 100% to 80% by weight hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose and 0% to 20% by weight ethyl cellulose together with a therapeutically active ingredient, compressed at a pressure of 5 to 8 lbs./sq. inch in the presence of sufficient moisture as to provide the carrier with 5% to 25% by weight of water as dispersed moisture. The rate and duration of release of the active agent, which is either locally absorbed or swallowed in the saliva, is controlled by the size and shape of the product, and by the relative proportions of the two cellulose derivatives.
