titleOfInvention | Manufacture of oxyalkylated polyamides |
abstract | 1278995 Oxyalkylated polyamides BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 20 Oct 1969 [21 Oct 1968] 51325/69 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] Oxyalkylated polyamides (O) are made by reacting a polyamide (P) with 2À5-10 Î its weight of C 2-4 1,2-alkylene oxide(s) (A) at 60- 150‹ C. and at normal or elevated pressure in the presence of an inert liquid aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon (H) which is not a solvent or swelling agent for (P) or (O), catalysts being absent. Hydrocarbon (H) may have 4-12 C atoms, e.g. butane, pentane, or heptane. The pressure may be 0-20 atmos. gauge. Evaporative cooling may be used. Polyamide (P) may be synthetic and derived from e.g. or p,p<SP>1</SP> - diamino - dicyclohexylmethane, and or where the carbon chain may be interrupted by O or S; or terephthalic, phenylenediacetic or phenylenediproprionic acids; #-amino -butyric, -caproic, -caprylic, -capric, -decanoic, or -dodecanoric acids; or lactams thereof; or mixtures of said starting materials. (P) may be granular or powdered, and dried to 1% wt. H 2 O. Alkylene oxide (A) may be ethylene oxide, 1,2-propylene oxide, or 1,2-butylene oxide. Uses.-The oxyalkylated polyamides (O) may be colloidally soluble in water, and may be used as antistatic finishes for fibres, particularly polyamide fibres, as textile auxiliaries, and as dyeing assistants, e.g. for preventing creasing in winch-dyeing. |
