titleOfInvention | Synchronized vortac/tacan cas system |
abstract | 1278637 Radionavigation SIERRA RESEARCH CORP 15 Aug 1969 [20 Aug 1968] 40944/69 Heading H4D In a co-operative co-altitude aircraft collision avoidance system (CAS) as in Specification 1,278,636 the VOR/DME, TACAN or VORTAC ground stations A, B, C, D are synchronized directly by a master clock 3 to transmit CAS sync signals which may or may not be synchronized with the rotating aerial pattern of the corresponding ground station. At an airborne station the distance R of said station from a ground station D as determined by a DME unit 5 is converted to digital form by an A/D converter 14 and applied through a gate unit 16 to set the slot counter 18 to a number corresponding to the one-way propagation time for the distance R, the gate unit 16 being enabled by a CAS sync signal received from the ground station D so that the next local sync signal produced by the counter 18 occurs when the next CAS sync signal is transmitted from the ground station D; the counter 18 is then in absolute synchronism with the master clock 3. |
