abstract 1278258 Boots &c SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 13 Aug 1969 [22 Aug 1968 10 April 1969] 40166/68 and 18589/69 Heading A3B [Also in Division C3] A sole unit of elastomeric material, e.g. natural rubber or SBR rubber but excluding thermoplastic rubber, is subjected to a surface halogenation treatment before being bonded to a lasted upper using a solvent based polyurethane or polychloroprene adhesive. The halogen may be chlorine or bromine. Bromination may be carried out using a solution of bromine in carbon tetrachloride and chlorination may be carried out using chlorine vapour or an aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid.
