abstract | 1275288 Microbiological preparation of ring A aromatic steroids ORGANON LABORATORIES Ltd 18 June 1969 [26 July 1968] 30777/69 Heading C2U 3-Hydroxy ring A aromatic steroids are prepared by contacting #<SP>4</SP>- or #<SP>5</SP>-3-(keto, hydroxy or acyloxy).steroids containing in the 10- position H, CHO, CO.OX or CH 2 OY (in which X is H or a hydrocarbon radical and Y is H or an acyl radical) with a micro-organism of the genus Alcaligenes. During the aromatization any 17-hydroxy or -acyloxy group. is converted partly or wholly to a 17-keto group. Suitable micro-organisms include A. viscolactis, A, recti and A. faecalis. Specified products include estrone, #<SP>6</SP>-estrone, #<SP>1,3,5(10)</SP>-3-hydroxy-20-keto 19-nor-pregnatriene, equilin and equilenin. |
