abstract 1275276 2α3α-Epithio-steroids SHIONOGI & CO Ltd 25 July 1969 [26 July 1968] 37559/69 Heading C 2U Novel steroids of the formula (where R is H or C 1-3 alkyl and n is 3, 4 or 5) are prepared by reaction of 2α,3α-epithio-5α-androstan-17#-ol with a compound of the formula (where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are each C 1-3 alkyl, phenyl or benzyl or together are C 1-3 alkylene), which reaction proceeds via compounds of the formula which may also be used as starting materials, being heated to give the required products. The novel steroids are stated to have hermonic and antihormonic activities, particularly myogenic and androgenic activities and they may be made up into pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions with suitable carriers. Specifications 977,599 and 1,164,412 are referred to.
