abstract 1,274,998. Preparation of ion exchange resins. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 11 Sept., 1970 [12 Dec., 1969], No. 43645/70. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C7] A cation exchange resin is prepared by dissolving polyvinyl alcohol in water, and adding under nitrogen atmosphere and reflux a mixture of acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate divinyl benzene and benzoylperoxide with stirring. After filtering off the copolymer is treated in turn with cold sulphuric acid NaOH/EtOH, and finally washed with HCl. An anion exchange resin is prepared by chloromethylating a copolymer of vinylanisole and butadiene by means of ethylene dichloride, and chloromethylether under reflux, and in the presence of aluminium chloride. The product is then aminated with diethylenetriamine in the presence of toluene.
