abstract | 1,274,030. Fluorination catalysts. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 24 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 37228/69. Heading BIE. [Also in Division C2] A catalyst for the fluorination of hydrocarbons comprises aluminium fluoride or fluorinated alumina containing compounds of iron and chromium, the iron and chromium being present in amounts of from 0.1 to 5% and 0.05 to 8.5% by weight, respectively, based on the total weight of catalyst. The catalyst may also contain a nickel compound, the nickel being present in an amount of up to 5%. The metals may be present in the catalyst in the form of halides, particularly fluorides, or oxides or oxy-halides and may be introduced into the aluminium fluoride or alumina in the form of chlorides or nitrates in solution after which the composition is activated by heating and fluorinated. The catalyst is stated as being useful for the gas-phase fluorination of halogenated ethanes using hydrogen fluoride, the gas-phase chlorofluorination of ethylene using chlorine and hydrogen fluoride, and the gasphase disproportionation of 1, 1, 2-trifluoro-1, 2, 2-trichloroethane (see Division C2). |
