A photoconductive composition comprises a photoconductor and a cyclopropenylium salt substituted by an aryl or heterocylic radical. In the specific embodiments the composition also comprises a polyester of terephthalic acid and 2,2 - bis - [- 4- (# - hydroxyethoxy) - phenyl]-propane and ethylene glycol and is coated on a support of Al or polyethylene terephthalate carrying a coating of an organic sodium salt. Alternatively a self-supporting photoconductive layer may be formed. The photoconductor is exemplified by triphenylamine, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-benzylidene bis - (N,N - diethyl - m - toluidine) or 4,4<SP>1</SP>- bis-(diphenylamino) chalcone. The substituents of the cyclopropenyl group may be phenyl, indolyl, 2-thienyl, p-ethylphenyl, 1,3,3-trimethyl - 2 - methylene indolenyl, p - dimethylaminophenyl, p - diphenylaminophenyl, pdimethylaminostyryl, 2 - quinolyl, N - ethyl pyrrolyl, or p-N-methyl-N-ethylaminophenyl whilst the anion is preferably fluoborate, chloride, p-toluene sulphonate, perchlorate or benzene sulphonate.
