titleOfInvention High energy fuel
abstract 1,269,701. Preparation of liquid hydrocarbon fuels. KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 16 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 30359/69. Heading C5E. A fuel for supersonic jet aircraft, having a specific gravity d 4 <SP>20</SP> of 0À86-0À98, a refractive index n D <SP>20</SP> of 1À465-1À500, a hydrogen/carbon atom ratio of more than 1À8, calorific values of 9000-10,000 cal./cc. and 10,200-11,000 cal./gm. and an amount of naphthene ring-forming hydrogen (by NMR) which is more than 50% of the total hydrogen content of the fuel and consisting of naphthenic or alkylnaphthenic hydrocarbons, is made by catalytically hydrogenating an aromatic oil, obtained as a byproduct of heating a crude oil or petroleum fraction at 700-2300‹ C. for 5-0À001 seconds; the aromatic oil boiling between 200‹ and 350‹ C. and having a specific gravity of 1À0-1À3, a refractive index of 1À55-1À68 and a hydrogen/ carbon atom ratio of 0.5 to 1.0. The hydrogenation is carried out at 10-500 kg./cm<SP>2</SP>. and 200- 450‹ C. using a catalyst comprising one or more of Ni, Co, Mo, Fe, Ru, W, Rh, Re, Os, Ir, Pt and Pd or their oxides and sulphides on a carrier of alumina, diatomaceous earth, clay active carbon or synthetic zeolite. The aromatic oil is suitably obtained by distillation of the bottom oil byproduct of the production of olefins or towns gas, it can be heated at 250-550‹ C. for 1 min.-5 hours and/or subjected to hydrodesulphurization at 350-450‹ C. and 20-100 kg./cm<SP>2</SP>. using a catalyst of Co-Mo, Ni-Mo, or Ni-Co-Mo on alumina, silica-alumina or zeolite prior to the hydrogenation.
