[Also in Division B4] The body 8 of a hypodermic syringe for injecting radioactive liquids is mounted in a lead box 1 having a lead cover 3 pivoted by a hinge 19, the cover including a lead glass window 22. The syringe piston 9 has a head 11 engaged by a fork 10 having a threaded bore engaging a rotatable screw 12 driven by gears 17, 18 by a cranked handle 16 situated externally of the box 1. Thus, by rotating the handle 16 the piston 9 is moved to fill or empty the syringe. For a filling operation the syringe end 15 is connected by a flexible tube 20 to a liquid receptacle 21. For an injecting operation the tube 20 is removed and replaced by a hypodermic needle. A tritium light source 23 enables the graduation marks on the syringe body 8 to be observed through the window 22.
