1,268,952. α-Haloamides. MERCK & CO. Inc. 16 June, 1969 [21 June, 1968], No. 30411/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula: in which Z is a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, and X is a hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, or a substituted or unsubstituted, C 1-9 alkyl, phenyl or C 3-9 cycloalkyl group, or a group of the formula where R<SP>IV</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted, C 1-9 alkylene, phenylene or C 3-9 cycloalkylene group and Z and R are as defined above, with the proviso that when R is a hydrogen atom Z and X are chlorine or bromine atoms and that when X or R<SP>1V</SP> is a substituted group, the or each substituent is a halogen atom or a C 1-9 alkyl, phenyl, halo C 1-9 alkyl, nitro, benzoyl, C 2-9 alkanoyl, carboxy, carbophenoxy, C 1-9 alkoxy, phenoxy, C 1-9 alkylthio, carbamoyl, (C 1-9 alkyl) carbamoyl, phenyl carbamoyl, sulphonamido, amino, cyano, nitrophenyl, (C 1-9 alkyl)phenyl, hydroxy, carbo-(C 1-9 alkoxy) or hydroxy C 1-9 alkyl group or a 5 to 7-membered heteroaromatic ring, optionally fused to a phenyl ring, are prepared by reaction of an acid X(Z) 2 C-COOH or a derivative thereof with an amine of formula R-CH(OH)CH 2 NH 2 . Feed composition useful for methane suppression comprises at least one above novel compound and an element of ruminant nutrition. |
