abstract | 1,268,153. 2,3-Dibromofuran. SOC. DE RECHERCHES INDUSTRIELLES. 19 June, 1970 [23 June, 1969], No. 29956/70. Heading C2C. 2,3-Dibromofuran is prepared by bromination of an ester of furoic acid, followed by saponification and decarboxylation. Decarboxylation is preferably effected by copper powder in quinoline at elevated temperatures. 2-Bromo-furan and 2,3,4-tribromofuran are obtained as by-products. Furoic acid ester starting materials are obtained by oxidation of furfural with potassium permanganate, followed by esterification. 3-Bromo-furan is prepared from 2,3-dibromofuran by reaction with methyl lithium. |
