titleOfInvention Improvements in the Purification of Sulphuric Acid, and the Obtainment of useful Products and in Apparatus to be used therein.
abstract 126,714. Wareing, A. E., and United Alkali Co. Feb. 23, 1917. Sulphuric acid is freed from arsenic by treating with sulphuretted hydrogen and the arsenious sulphide is separated by agitating with a liquid hydrocarbon such as paraffin oil to form a scum, separating the scum, washing it till free from sulphuric acid, dissolving the arsenious sulphide in sodium hydrate, carbonate, or sulphide, and separating the hydro. carbon from the thioarsenite solution. The mixture of acid, sulphide, and oil is passed from a mixer into a trough A, the scum being removed by combs C on endless chains c and carried up an inclined shelf B to an inclined trough D having baffles d in the form of lateral troughs. The outlet a<2> for the purified acid is below the shelf B. The scum is washed by water sprays E, F, the latter being over a perforated plate d<4> covering the outlet d<5>. The washed scum, .separated from the washing-water, is treated as above described for the recovery of the oil and the production of thioarsenite.
