abstract 1,266,185. Cooling lighting fittings. ELECTRICITY COUNCIL. 11 Sept., 1970 [30 June, 1969], No. 32862/69. Headings F4R and F4U. In apparatus for extracting heat from lighting fittings having cooling passages 15 passing through the structure of the light fittings 10-13, a liquid is used having a boiling point which is less than or equal to the temperature in the lighting fitting or fittings. The liquid is preferably refrigerant 11 (CFCl 3 ), the vapour passing via line 21 to a condenser. The resultant condensate passes through a pipe 24, a liquid receiver 25 with a sight glass 26, and a liquid control valve 27 to a return pipe 20 to the lighting fittings. A fan 29 passes air over the condenser; the vapour pressure at the inlet to the condenser 23 being sensed by a sensor 33 which operates a damper 34 in the air outlet so as to form a self-regulating system. In another embodiment, only a single pipe need be employed, the vapour bubbles passing upwardly through this pipe to an inlet to the condenser and the liquid from this pipe passing downwardly through the lighting fittings.
