abstract | 1,265,772. Polyurethane foams. NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP. 17 Aug., 1970 [18 Aug., 1969], No. 39535/70. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyurethane foams are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate, an active hydrogencontaining compound and water, in the presence of a gelation catalyst and a foaming catalyst having the formula wherein V and W are C 1-4 alkylene or C 1-4 hydroxy substituted alkylene radicals and U is a nitrogen atom or a radical wherein R is hydrogen, a C 1-3 alkyl, C 3-6 cycloalkyl or a C 1-3 hydroxyalkyl radical. Suitable active hydrogen-containing compounds are polyethers and polyesters. The gelation catalyst may be a heavy metal salt or an organometallic compound and is preferably stannous octoate. Numerous foaming catalysts are listed, those specifically exemplified being 5- methyl - 1 - azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane; 1 - azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane; 1 - azabicyclo[4.2.0]- octane; 4,6 - dimethyl - 1 - azabicyclo[3.3.0]- octane and 1,5-diazabicyclo[3.3.0]octane. |
