titleOfInvention New halogen-pregnadienes and processes for the manufacture thereof
abstract 1,262,576. 2 - Chloro - #<SP>1,4</SP>-pregnadienes. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 21 Feb., 1969, No. 9433/69. Heading C2U. Novel steroids of the formula (in which R 1 is a free, esterified or etherified OH group; and Y is H or a free or esterified OH group) are prepared (1) by adding chlorine on to the 1,2-double bond of the corresponding 2- unsubstituted steroids and then eliminating HCl from the products; or (2) by oxidizing the corresponding 11#-ols. In the products free OH groups can be esterified and/or the 21-OH group etherified and/or esterified OH groups or the etherified OH group hydrolysed. The novel steroids are stated to exhibit antiinflammatory and thymolytic effects, and they may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
