titleOfInvention Electrical insulating materials based on ethylene polymers
abstract 1,261,843. Polyolefin insulating compositions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 13 June, 1969 [14 June, 1968], No. 30102/69. Heading C3P. Electrically insulating compositions comprise an ethylene polymer and a compound of formula where n is 0 or 1 to 5; X is C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 oxyalkyl; and Y is where R<SP>1</SP> is H, an aliphatic, aromatic, aromaticaliphatic or aliphatic-aromatic group of not more than 10 carbon atoms which may have 1 to 3 halogen, nitrile, hydroxyl, alkyl-O-, alkyl-CO-O-, alkyl-O-CO- or alkyl- O-CO-O- substituents in which the alkyl group has 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R<SP>2</SP> is C 1-10 alkyl which may have 1 or 2 halogen, nitrile, hydroxy, alkyl-O-, alkyl-CO-O-, alkyl- O-CO- or alkyl-O-CO-O- substituents in which the alkyl group has 1 to 6 carbon atoms. Conventional additives may also be present, and the compositions used for insulating high voltage cables. Many suitable substituted anilines are specified and examples describe compositions of polyethylene and (1) N-methyl-N-(2-carboxymethylethyl) aniline, (2) N-ethyl-N-(2-carboxyisobutylethyl) aniline, (3) N-methyl-N-(2- carboxymethylethyl)-2,5-dimethyl aniline, (4) N - (2 - phenylethyl) - N - (2 - carboxymethyl ethyl) - 3 - methylaniline, (5) N - (2 - cyanoethyl)-N-(2-acetoxyethyl)-aniline and (6) N-(2- phenylethyl)-aniline.
