Free alkylbenzene sulphonic acids containing an alkyl chain of 8-18 carbon atoms are treated with at least 1% by weight of a basic organic compound, a glycol, an aliphatic alcohol of 8-20 carbon atoms or an alkanolamide, whereby the stability of the products to storage is improved. Specified additions are ethanolamine, triethanolamine, ethylene glycol, a synthetic C 12 -C 15 alcohol, the ethanol amide from coconut fatty acids and urea. An example is given.
