A pressure reducing device comprises one or more valves 14, 15 each connected to a highpressure source 33 at 24, and exhausting through a throttle 28, the valves being opened and closed at a programmed frequency which produces a predetermined role of pressure reduction. The valves are operated by the application of pressure pulses to inlets 23 by valve means (not shown) controlled by a cam disc, or punched card or strip.
