abstract 1,252,111. Phosphorus-containing indazole derivatives and intermediates therefor. RHONEPOULENC S.A. 23 Jan., 1970 [27 Jan., 1969; 22 Oct., 1969], No. 3491/70. Headings C2C and C2P. Novel compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 is a halogen atom, a C 1 -C 4 alkyl radical, or a phenyl, cyano, carbamoyl or thiocarbamoyl group and R 2 is H, halogen, or NO 2 , are obtained by reacting (C 2 H 5 O) 2 P(S)Cl with an indazole derivative of the formula wherein M is H or an alkali metal. The reaction is preferably carried out in an aprotic polar solvent e.g. 2-N-methyl pyrrolidone, dimethylformamide, hexamethylphosphotriamide or dimethylsulphoxide at 0-30‹ C. When M is an alkali metal the alkali metal derivative can be prepared in situ e.g. by treating the indazole in which M is H with an alkali metal alkoxide in an alcohol. The products have insecticidal and fungicidal properties and may be admixed with one or more solid or liquid diluents or adjuvants to form conventional compositions which may also contain wetting, dispersing or emulsifying agents. 3 - Carbamoyl - 5 - nitroindazole is obtained by the action of nitric acid on 3-cyanoindazole in solution in sulphuric acid. 3 - Thiocarbamoylindazole is obtained by the action of HCl and O,O-diethyldithiophosphorie acid on 3-cyanoindazole in benzene solution. 3 - Carbamoyl - 5 - chloroindazole is obtained by the action of sulphuric acid on 3-cyano-5- chloroindazole which is itself obtained by reacting sodium chlorate with 3-cyanoindazole in solution in acetic acid.
