[Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Lubricants, cooling and insulating oils, fatty oils, wax and waxes are stabilized by incorporating therein a compound of the formula: in which R is an alkyl or alkenyl group having from 1 to 22 carbon atoms, which may, if desired, be mono- or poly-substituted with one or more of halogen, NO 2 , CN and/or epoxy group and in which one or more CH 2 and/or CH groups in the carbon chain may, if desired, be replaced by O, S, CO, CS and/or N, or in which R is an aralkyl group having from 7 to 20 carbon atoms in which the alkyl part, which may be saturated or unsaturated, may, if desired, be mono- or poly-substituted with one or more of halogen, NO 2 , CN and/or the epoxy group and/or in which one or more CH 2 and/or CH groups may, if desired, be replaced by O, S, CO, CS and/or N and in which the aryl part may, if desired, be mono- or poly-substituted with one or more of halogen, NH 2 , NO 2 , CN, alkyl, alkoxy, acyl, acyloxy, alkylthio, alkylamino, dialkylamino, acylamino or diacylamino, and R 2 is H or R 1 , provided that R 1 is not formyl. Peanut oil is stabilized by incorporating one of the compounds, 2,6-di-tert. butyl-4-methyl anisole, 2,6- di-tert. butyl-4-octadecyl anisole, cinnamic acid-2,6-di-tert. butyl-4-methylphenyl ester. |
