abstract | 1,251,128. Level sensing. RANK XEROX Ltd. 12 Feb., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 7584/69. Heading H4D. [Also in Division G4] The level of material in a container (e.g. a hopper 100 from which toner powder is dispensed in an automatic xerographic copying machine) is sensed by comparing the amplitude of an acoustic pulse received at 80 from transmitter 70 with a threshold value. Transducers 70 and 80 may be those from a conventional telephone hand set. Switches SW-B and SWA2 are closed to make receiver 80 operative and initiate a level sensing at a quiet part of the copying machine operating cycle, then switch SW-A1 is closed to pulse transmitter 70. If the received pulse has a sufficient amplitude, i.e. when the material is below the level of the transducers, the silicon controlled switch SCS is triggered and energizes neon lamp NE-2. The lamp indication can be cancelled by closing switch SW-C to reverse bias the SCS cathode. Potentiometer R-1 allows the trigger threshold to be adjusted. Details of the xerographic apparatus are given. |
